WHAT WE’RE ALL ABOUT

In 2016 the City of Minnetonka posed a simple question to its residents as part of its Imagine Minnetonka campaign: “What is your one wish for Minnetonka?” In response, residents took to social media to express their hopes and dreams in a way never done in our community before. Among the most strongly supported ideas was the creation of dedicated mountain bike trails in our parks. The Minnetonka Mountain Bike Trail Advocates are the members of our community passionate about making this dream a reality.

WHY MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS

Mountain biking is an experience that combines several key elements, including an appreciation for the natural environment, the joy of participating in an exciting, physically challenging outdoor activity, and the camaraderie of enjoying the experience with friends and family. Our community of Trail Advocates support local mountain bike trails to…

  • Retain and attract young families to Minnetonka
  • Support Minnetonka’s vision as a bike-friendly community
  • Create a larger community of volunteers to care for and maintain our parks

LOCAL SUCCESS STORIES

If you’re not certain how mountain biking fits into a shared-use park system, we encourage you to visit one of the local success stories around town. You’ll be surprised at the lack of user conflict and dedication to these sustainable trail systems:

OTHER MOUNTAIN BIKING LINKS

Mountain biking has grown over the last 25 years from a fringe sport to mainstream family activity. Below are some links to local and national groups who are all friends of our efforts.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

We advocate as a community of volunteers who are interested in protecting the beauty of our natural resources, and meet regularly to remove invasive species in our parks.

SUSTAINABLE TRAILS

We support properly designed, sustainable trails to prevent erosion and minimize impact on the environment. Designating where bikers can ride will have a positive impact on all parks.

SHARED PARKS

We believe our parks should be enjoyed by everyone, and we support a design that has minimal intersections with existing maintained trails to create a fun and safe experience for all.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

In early 2018 the City of Minnetonka completed the process of evaluating our community parks to find the best fit for a sustainable mountain bike trail system. Taking into account factors such as usable acreage, topography, and parking, the City identified Lone Lake Park as the sole property capable of supporting mountain bike trails.
